Hi,

My 2004 pt cruiser wont shift gears the computer reads TCM issues and system malufunctions.

I hear a loud pop the other day Is there a possibility a belt popped?

It sounds like the transmission control module is bad. I would recommend haveing it checked to be sure because it can be expensive. As far as the noise, a belt would have nothing to do with the trans unless one broke and damaged wiring. Check under the hood for a broken belt.
