I have a 2003 automatic pt cruiser and I am having problems with my transmission. What happens is when I drive my car everything is fine at the beginning but when I come to several consistent stops (ex. When I stop at a red light then go then another red light then go.) My transmission kicks and then the gears don't kick in it stays on the first and does not shift to the second or third. What can be wrong? I did a trans oil change thinking it might help but nothing.

Hello -

To better assist you is your model just the PT Cruiser or the Dream Cruiser or the GT, Limited or the Touring and what is your engine size in liter?

Also, please go to Auto Zone (AZ) or O'Reilly's (OR) and for FREE they can pull the codes to the car. Most important: Once they check your codes, if they find something and you don't get it fixed and need to get back with us, please make sure you tell us exactly what the code was, number and all. Example, if the code was E0568 O2 Sensor bad. Then make sure you give us all of that. While there for FREE also they can bring their tester out and check your battery and alternator.

What is probably going on right now is you are throwing a code and it sounds like your transmission is going into "limp mode" which means it stays in 2nd gear and no shifting. So please check the codes and let me know.
