Basically you just drive it and the computer will start out from pre-programmed fuel delivery values. As you drive, it will see when the exhaust is too rich or too lean and it will make adjustments. Later, it will use the new learned values so it doesn't have to readjust so much. You won't notice that taking place.

What you WILL notice is the engine likely will not idle fast enough so it will stall when you come to a stop. The computer must relearn "minimum throttle" so it will know when it must be in control of idle speed. It takes a reading from the throttle position sensor when it knows your foot is off the gas pedal. It knows that by the fact the car is coasting. It knows the car is coasting when intake manifold vacuum is higher than normal. You can make that happen by snapping the throttle open and releasing it quickly, but the computer wants to see high vacuum for seven seconds. To meet the conditions for this relearn to take place, drive at highway speed with the engine warmed up, then coast for at least seven seconds without touching the brake or gas pedals.

Note: This monitor evaluates EGR flow based on a change of engine roughness (idle stability).
Conditions causing un-stable idle will prevent this monitor from running.
