2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Manual

About a year ago, our pt cruiser started making a weird clicking sounding noise when it was in 4th gear and just ran generally bad. The check engine light was on and when we did the home obdII test, it came back with a po420 code, which is for a catalytic converter below the threshhold. After inspecting the catalytic converter, we began to think maybe that wasn't really the problem but rather there was something wrong with an O2 sensor. In the process of all of this, the car stopped working and won't start.

Any body have any ideas of if these problems are interconnected or what could be causing these issues?

It may or may not be related. First recheck the codes to see what is listed.

When you say it doesn't start, does it do nothing when the key is turned(no crank)
or the engine spins over and doesn't start.

If this is a no crank, you need to go back to basic troubleshooting, checking for fuel pressure, spark, compression/timing.

I would check compression first, or look to see that the timing belt hasn't been sheared.
