I have a 1989 chrysler new yorker landau it has a 3.0 liter engine with 127,000 miles on it. I was told the power steering pump was out so I replaced it myself. I took the car for a little trip and I lost the power steering. Come to find out the rack & pinion was leaking and it burnt the new pump out. I have priced the rack&pinion and I dont want to put alot of money in this car. I have removed the rack&pinion and would like to know how to rebuild the rack&pinion.I can get the remanufactured rack&pinion for $70.00 and the rebuild kit is only $11.00. Do I have to have special tools? How do I rebuild this? Thank You for any info. Neal

For what it matters, Neal, I had this conversation with an oldtimer at work who was talking about that exact issue. He was saying they would rebuild them and shortly thereafter end up replacing them.

I have no experience on them personally, but wanted to pass it along.
