I had my radiator replaced. The new radiator was defective so the shop replaced it again. Now, less than a month later, my upper hose blew. The shop claims that this was not covered since they did not replace the hoses.

I was never asked about the hoses since I assumed they were included in the replacement of the radiator. The shop claims that they did not feel the hoses required replacement.

Given that the car has 128,000 miles and that the hoses had to be disconnected and reconnected twice, I find this argument a bit ridiculous.

I am fairly comfortable that bad judgement was used by the shop, but I wanted to know if it would be standard service to replace the hoses with the radiator.

I paid about $550 for the new radiator and now they expect me to pay $125 for the upper hose.

Thoughts?

They already indicated to you that they did not think that the hose needed changing, thats telling you right there it was a bad diagnosis. Thats not good business, they just want to make a dollar off of every little thing, the hose is only twelve dollars at autozone, so you tell me what kind of shop this is, I recommend not using that shop again, there is not much you can do legally, its just going to be an arguement back in forth, and whos to say if a small claims court is in your favor, that they wont dileberately mess something else up on your vehicle, it does happen. Try this, buy the hose, (you need it anyway) tell them to put it on, and charge you the labor, I used to do that all the time, they dont like it, but thats life. The labor is probably about 20 minutes. Which is what, twenty dollars, I think you win
let me know what you think
