Steering problem
2000 Chrysler Concorde Front Wheel Drive Automatic

power steering fluid is leaking; took it to the dealer and was told the "power steering cooler" needed to be replaced. And of course this is not covered by the warranty. Isn't the cooler part of the power steering mechanism and the power steering pump?
what exactly is the difference?

The cooler, when used, is a small radiator in the front of the car or bolted near the pump. It is more common for the rubber hoses going to it to leak. Not all cars use this cooler.

At nine years old, I would assume the warranty you're referring to is an aftermarket insurance policy, not the manufacturer's warranty. I heard this over and over again at the dealership; "what you need isn't covered". In my opinion, you're better off putting the money into a savings account in case you need expensive repairs. By buying the insurance policy, you're guaranteed of spending the money. Plus, you still have to pay for most repairs.
