2015 Chrysler 200. Radio randomly shuts off and comes back on while driving. Car sometimes hesitates for about 1 second when accelerating from a stop (red light / stop sign). Does not stall and no warning lights.

Did both of these problems happen at once? It sounds like two separate problem though I have seen the TIPM start to go out and cause both of these issues. Please let me know so we can make the right repairs without guessing. Ken

Hi Ken, thanks for the reply.

To answer your question: after paying closer attention, it seems like I’m dealing with two separate problems (possibly three symptoms total).
1. Radio/Infotainment issue: the radio/screen will randomly go black and reboot while driving (music cuts out, then comes back on in about 5 to 10 seconds).
2. Exterior lighting issue: the headlights and taillights stay on for about 7 minutes after the engine is turned off and the car is locked, even though the headlight delay feature is turned off in the vehicle settings.
3. Driveability symptom: when accelerating from a complete stop (red light/stop sign), the car sometimes has slow/hesitating acceleration for about a second before it responds normally.

Because the lighting behavior and the radio reboot don’t seem tied to the same moment as the acceleration hesitation, I’m assuming these are separate issues, but I wanted to confirm what you think so we can test/diagnose the right way instead of guessing.

Thanks again.

Yep, these issues do sound separate, so each issue started at different times correct? Please start new threads for the, "Exterior lighting issue" and the "Driveability symptom" Because we only handle one problem per thread. We will handle the radio screen issue on this thread, first lets look at the 3 fuses that run the system, with the key on wiggle the fuses to see if the radio blinks on and off indicating a lose connection. All three fuses are located in the fuse panel under the hood # 98, #80, and #77 have a helper watch the radio scree while you wiggle. please post your new question here, you must be logged in.

Let me know what happens. Ken

I wiggled all three fuses (#98, #80 and #77) with the key on and nothing happened. I also pulled each fuse one at a time with the car off and the radio still randomly reboots while driving (screen goes black for about 5†10 seconds and then comes back on and restarts the audio).

No other accessories shut off when it happens and the vehicle does not stall.

What would you recommend checking next?

You can check the ground but to me it sounds like the radio head unit w/screen itself is going bad which is common. You can try to get a used unit from ebay, I have had good luck with their parts. Here is the ground location which you can check at the radio as well, this guide can show you how.

Thank you for the info. I was actually planning to go with an aftermarket radio anyway. I mainly wanted to confirm if it would carry over to a new aftermarket head unit if it’s caused by a wiring or ground problem, or does it only happen when the factory radio itself is failing? I just wanted to make sure I don’t install a new radio and still have the same problem.

I hear ya, take a look at the power and ground sources to the radio. I marked them in the image below. Let us know what you find.
