I have a 1993 Chevy van G30 with a 5.7 ltr engine it has 125K miles. I just bought the van approx. 2 weeks ago from a private owner. The van was sitting for how long I don't know. It wouldn't start so I replaced the fuel pump with a new one, and the throttle body with a used one the previous owner is a machanic and tested the fuel injectors and showed me they were in good working order. The van worked great for two weeks then it started loosing power, backfiring and stalling the check engine light came on. Since then Ive replaced the fuel filter, the distributer cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires. The check engine light went out but after a couple of min it stalled and the light came back on. I need this vehicle for work and can donate once I get going.

Go to autozone get the codes read and post em here. Backfires are cause by more issues than we can guess at! It's usually related to timming or worn parts. If the truck has an aspierator tube to the converter, check for holes.

Auto zone read the codes for free in cars year 1996 and up. Your van have OBDI you can read the codes without scanner with paper clip is very easy to do this. Go in google and make search how you read obd1 codes with paper clip

Cross these two terminals as shown, then turn the key on. Count the flashes, a 22 will flash as 2 flashes then a short pause, then 2 flashes, if more than one code is stored, the pause will be longer. The codes will display three times and end with 12. Write them down and post here. This connector is right under the middle of the dash...altho I think they can read both!
