Chevy van

Hi there,
I have a 1995 G20 chevy van with 422,000kms, It's a V8.
I've changed the fuel pump, distributer cap and altenator recently. I have added a remote start which has been working fine.

The first issue I had was that when the weather would change a little bit or after sitting for a bout 8hrs, when starting, the starter would crank but the engine would not start. I pop my hood and wiggle the wire harness behind the alternator and it starts and runs with no problems. I found some spliced wires from the previous owner but fixed and soldered these with no results. Could this be related to an intermttent starter relay?

Two days ago, I went to turn the key to start and got nothing at all, ( I still have the power though, just no crank). When I remote start, it starts just fine so I know the starter is fine. I suspect my ignition key is the to blame but the only place that there is no contact is in start. Ignition key does look pretty beat up. The other thing is that I have no idea how to gain access the the ignition key.

Any help would be great.

Thanks :)

PS: I was told that the engine and tranny was re-built at 397,000 if that makes any difference.

Probably not the key but the switch! Your remote start is electrically bypassing the switch. If you want to tackle it, if the van has airbags. Disconnect the Negative battery cable for 5 mins, then remove the column cover then the switch. After the new switch is in turn ignition to on position then reconnect negative battery cable.
