1997 Chevy Van trouble starting and to stay running

When you try to start the van sometimes it does not start, when you let off the key it starts, once it is running it shuts off
I also have a 96 pick up same engine, does the same thing.
I am thinking it could be the coil but not sure tried plugs and other things
