I have 1984 chevy k10 4x4 I just put a 350 in it. The problem is it wont start. Ive checked for spark and full and they r there. And timing I beleive is pretty close. But my problem is that when im cranking the engine gas squirts out of the top of the carb. And I cant figure out why it stops when I hold the gas down but still wont start. Your opinion on this problem would be greatly appreciated

The fuel pump provides fuel under pressure to the carb where the float valve lets it into the bowl until the bowl is full. If the valve is stuck open or misadjusted or has a piece of something in the seat the fuel will continue to flow and squirt out the top. The mixture will be so out of balance that it won't start or if it does, it won't run well.
