Transmission trouble

I have a 1977 chevy 3/4 ton pickup tire size, 225/75/15, V.8 5.0 liters. Im haven trouble with my speedometer I have replaced the speedometer cable and tried 3 diffrent cluster panels and still nothing. I was told there is also a speedometer gear I how would I tell if it is good or not. Or anything eles I need to try I wounld appreciate it.

The rear of the transmission has a speedomiter gear. If thet is broke it wont work. Check this out it is only plastic and if your cable ever "locked up" it will bresk this gear
