Should be front of the engine bay on the passenger side. You'll probably see the canister better from underneath.

When looking at the engine from the top, it is on the right side of the engine. It has a black plastic cover on it, it will take a 1" 1/4 or so socket with a long extension on it. 03-05 Cavaliers don't have a canister for the oil filter; it’s more like cartage. You can not change it from underneath; it has to be done from the top. I do the oil changes on mine.
