2002 Chevy Cavalier A/C Problem

Hi! I have a 2002 Chevy Cavalier and the a/c is no longer working. Initially, when the a/c was on, the rpms would bounce all over the place. Now when I push the button to turn the a/c on, nothing happens - the rpms do not change and there is no change in sound. Summer is coming so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The first thing that you will have to do is determin if their is any 134a freon in the system. My guess probely not. Their is a safty that will keep the compreson from turning on if their is not enought freon in the system. If their is freon in the system you need to make sure that it has the right amount. If the freon is like it should be than a test of the compresson. To make sure that it is working. USE CAUTION AS THE SYSTEM IS UNDER PRESURE.
