When I first start my car up in the morning there is a loud knocking noise. After the vehicle warms up, it queits down, but continues to knock. If I start the car up when its warm, it still knocks, but not loud. The knocking noise doesn't get any louder or softer when accelerating or deccelerating. Any ideas?

Thanks

"KNOCKS" are extremely hard to diagnose in this medium, unfortunately. It could be a number of things. To be sure though, it is not good. You need to take it to a trusted, experienced mechanic and let him listen to it, in order to get an accurate diagnosis. Good luck.

I have a 2001 Malibu. Same problem, knocking loud when first started, knocking but never really quieting down. When the dealer took the engine apart, they discovered that the pistons were hitting the cylindar wall. Hence the engine was replaced.
