I have 2 problems, first is the engine pings when accelerating. I had the EGR valve replaced in Dec. 08 because engine lights was on and the mechanic said that was the cause. Next problem is the truck squeaks when stopping and when I sit in the vehicle. This problem maybe the rear leaf springs or pittman arm? I've been told that the pittman arm needs to be replaced.

Hi jbgood711,

Thank you for the donation.

Pinging when accelerating are usually caused by the timing being too advanced or the fuel quality is below the specified grade in octane rating.

What is the engine type you have in your vehicle?

Squeaks would not be easy for us to diagnose and it could be anything. You would need to verify the source by bumping the vehicle and getting someone to try to locate the source.

The leaf springs would squeak under almost all condition when vehicle is in motion if it has some dry or worn areas.

Pitman arm seldoms cause noise problems and if the do, it should be under any driving condidtions. It would cause knocking noise and excessive steering free travel.
