I HAVE A 1997 CHEVY K1500 SILVERADO PICK UP.
WHEN I TRY TO PUT THE VEHICAL INTO FOUR WHEEL HI OR LOW I HEAR A CLANK AS IF IT
ENGAGED, HOWEVER THE LIGHT KEEPS FLASHING AND THE VEHICAL STAYS IN REAR WHEEL DRIVE.

Now we know the transfer case is working. Check for power and ground at the front diff actuator, if ok then replace the actuator(very common). Also try tapping it gently and see if that jars it enough to get it to work.
