1997 Chevy Truck 4 WHEEL WILL NOT ENGAGE

Hi,

When I press the 4Hi button, the light just blinks and the transfer case never goes into 4 wheel drive. I've been under the truck while the button was being pushed, and I could hear the solenoid motor responding. I put a meter on the 2 wire connector, and got ~12v when the 4Hi button was pushed. Any suggestions?

Nick:
Chances are the actuator is bad. If you are getting 12v to it, it should be working. Remove the actuator and check to see if it responds when it is removed from the transfercase.

Let me know what you find.

Thank you for your response. I actually ended up bringing it into the dealer and they replaced the transfer switch (a $44 part). All is well with the 4 wheel drive again.
