1995 Chevy Truck Shift Indicator light

1995 Chevy Truck V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Intermit. when starting the truck the shift indicator light fails to turn on and when you put the truck in gear, the truck will not down shift or shift into any other gear. Its seems to be stuck in a high gear. after turning the truck on and off several times the light comes on and there is no issues. this is happening more frequently now.

Is there anything else that doesnt work when this happens? Stereo? Windows? Could be a bad ignition switch. Chech all fuses when the ligth isnt working to see if they all have power

No, everything else works and the truck runs. People have been telling me that it could be the nuetral safety switch???

Could be,its a trans position switch, located where the shift cable hooks to the trans.The connectors are a bear to get out of it, they are almost glued in with something
