Two weeks ago, I towed an old trailer with a non-working left brake or turn light. The lights on my truck were working fine.

I coupled the four-way link to the lights and towed the thing home.

A day or so later, I discovered that I my driver's side turn signal was out, and so was my driver's side brake light.

I checked the fuses and the bulbs, and all checked out ok.

Could I have shorted something out by plugging in the harness with the trailer lights out?

Do you have a high mount brake lite, does it work? Do the brake and turn on the other side work?

The lower brake and turn lite use the same bulb filament, not at the same time. Check for voltage at the brake lite with the brake applied, if nothing there, backtrack the circuit. You could check for feed coming from the turn switch.

Thanks jdl123!

The brake and the turn signal on the passenger side work fine, as does the front turn signal.

IF the voltage is good at the light, then is there a module of some kind that needs to be replaced in addition to the wiring being checked?
