1995 Chevy Truck 4X4 makes grinding noise

Planning on buyin a 1500 which looks in great shape except 4x4 makes a grinding noise when trying to put into 4 hi or lo. Owner claims he has never used 4x4 since he had it. Is it the transfer case or something much worse. Would like to know if it would be such a costly deal and should we forget about purchasing this vehicle?

Forget it, these are either gears grinding inside the tranny/transfercase, or something else just as serious, he never used 4*4, . Yeah right. He never used it because he didnt want to cause his self a headache, leave it alone, I understand you probably really like the truck, but more will come, no need to rush into expensive repairs
