As I was driving I shifted into 4th gear and it made a scratching sound as I put it in. I kept it in 4th and it did not make another noise. I ended up doing it twice again in a five or ten minute period and the problem repeated. As I put the shifter into neutral it stuck, I could not move the shifter (easy) as I had to man handle and use a strong effort just to put it in gear. It still rode but the problem yet again repeated. I have no thoughts to even imagine what went wrong. Any help would be great!

Now. After everything happened. I can not put into any gear with ease. At first it was hard to get into fourth gear. And as I was trying to shift into it each time it would not directly go in right away, therefore I had to push it back into neutral and try again maybe two or three times a piece before it went into gear. But now, It is hard to put it into any gear

If it grinds trying to get it into gear with the clutch pushed in, then it sounds like a clutch problem.

If there is no grinding, then it sounds like the shifter is loose or has fallen apart. If you have no experience with repairing manual transmissions, this may be best left to a mechanic with experience in this area.
