I have a 1988 chevy beretta 4cyl it runs fine and shifts fine but after running it for a while it will die unexpectedly and if I turn the car back on it starts fine. When I shift it into gear the car shuts off again please help. Just did oil change all the fluids seem ok.

Change your cooling heat sensor - I had the same problem with a 89 beretta 6 cyl it works fine now- it keeps the fan motor from running- it will over heat enough to shut it off- if you sit for awhile it start in gear after it cools -you more than likely have the same problem -and when you change it let it run for awhile to see if the fan starts- I had to stick a thin tree twigg in it I couldnt tell if it was running until then -watch your temp gauge when doing this make sure it dioesnt get to hot mine didnt start until it was half way up- hope this helps- oh it is under the thermostate or right at it it took me forever to find it
