1978 Chevy Pickup

My pickup runs with the negative cable removed, does this mean my battery is bad or could it be the alternator

I'm not too sure what you are meaning but as long as your alternator is good your truck should run without the battery at all. An old rule of thumb is if you take the positive loose and your truck dies you alternator is bad, if it stays runnig it is good. Is this something like what you're thinking of? :Roll:
