Engine Mechanical problem
1972 Chevy Truck V8 Two Wheel Drive

I just got done adjusting my valves and I got some popping sounds coming thru the exhaust, was wondering if it might be the valve adjustment or maybe the timing, I just put a new cam in and had the heads gone thru, also put a gear drive timing set in. Sbc 305

Try adjusting the valves again. Did you adjust the valves with or without the engine running?

It sounds like your valves might be too tight, loosen them about a quarter turn at a time each until the popping goes away. Is your geardrive the adjustable kind. If it is you will need to set it at 0 degrees and make sure your timing marks are lined up. I would do the valve adjustment 1st, its a lot easier. Check your firing order and timing too.
