I have a 350 V8 engine with a HEI distributor. The problem is that there is no spark going to the distributor when I crank the engine. When I ran a wire from the coil straight to the battery, it starts. What could be the problem?

I saw your post yesterday, because you donated, I figured you would want one of the higher rated people to talk to you. I'm strictly shadetree.

Usually the B+ side of the coil is ignition feed, goes hot when you turn on the key. Whether the problem is the wiring or ignition switch, I can't tell from here.

You are saying, with the key turned on, there is no feed to the coil?
