2004 Chevy Trailblazer Camshaft needs replaced so soon?

My SUV is under 4 years old - driven mostly short trips. Check Engine light came on today, took it to the dealership and they engine code came back to replace the camshaft.

1. Why so soon?
2. What says it won't do this again in 73K miles?
3. What questions should I be asking my mechanic?

Maybe it was the camshaft position sensor? Can you post the code? They will tell you if you ask for it.P0340-P0349 are sensor or sensor circuit issues. Dosnt necissarliy mean a bad cam. Does it backfire thru the throttle body?

I'll have to call for the code. I do know that they had the part in stock and when he walked away I saw that the part was $94. Does that give you a clue - or just prove I'm clueless :S

And to answer your question - the car shook when I stopped. It was fine on the highway (on the way to the dealership) but I felt like it was missing when I slowed down and tried to accelerate.

Was the part a long metal rods with oval bumps on it? Or a piece of plastic? A cam is more than 94 dollars.
