Last week my check engine light came on, and today while I was driving I had to come to an abrupt stop and my car died and white smoke started coming out from under the hood.
Also when I get to about 50mph my car hesitates and the RPM flucuate, but once I'm above 55mph it drives just fine.
Please advise, Thanks!

Check engine light
1st step should be to get the codes
Need an OBDII reader
Most part stores should help you in getting the codes (most do it for free)
Codes should indicate the trouble area (let us know what you have for codes)
As for the smoke from under the hood, when engine cold and off open hood and check for fluid leak
Check coolant, check oil, check tranny fluid and P/S fluid
