I am a owner of a chevy tahoe 2001 5, 3 ltr and about 85000 miles the truck runs great but when I drive exactly 40, 45 or 50 mph speed range goes from normally 1300 rpm always 100 or 300 up and down if I drive less than 40 or more than 50 mph all is fine, no codes are present my mechanic sad it could be a weak ignition coil so guys what are you thinking about that. Thanks for any advice

I think it is the torque converter locking and unlocking. If you drive at 40 mph and keep it out of overdrive does it still do it? It may need a new TCC solenoid this controls the converter lockup. I would also check the throttle possition sensor.

Sorry for my late replay, at first I have change the throttle position sensor whit a new one and I am driving 40 mph out of overdrive but it is still exist. Is it normal in wintertime to drive about 3-4 miles before the tranny goes in overdrive?
Thanks for any advice

Yes it is normal for the trans not to go into overdrive until it is warmed up a bit then after that it should work like normal. Is that what you mean?

Thanks for fast answer now I know that the trans need a warm up before it goes in overdrive.
But the first question I had have you know, about the speed range when I drive exactly 40 or 50 mph and rpm goes from normally 1300 always 100-300 up and down either in overdrive or 3th gear. You wrote I should check the TPS I do that and change it whit a new one but is it still occur. Are you still think, it could be the TCC solenoid? Cause it happens out of overdrive too.

Ok what I would like you do is get the truck up to 55 mph and then while in overdrive very lightly step on the brake (just enough to turn the brake lights on) does the rpm change? If so good. Then I would take it to a trans shop and have them check the detent cable adjustment, if this cable is not adjusted correctly then it will do just what it is doing. Has anyone messed with the trans or engine or?

Ok nobody has messed with the trans or engine, and I try what you have propose me I get the truck up to 55 mph and step very lightly on the brake but no change at rpm, but today when I have a ride I find out the trans go not always in overdrive even when I drive more than 15 miles. Is there probably a solenoid worn out?
