Vehicle Speed Sensor

I was on my way home from work speedometer and rpms shut down and transmission wouldn't shift. Could it be the vehicle speed sensor on tail end of transmission?

The vss would be my first thought. Here is the location of the VSS in the diagrams below. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

How hard is it to change the vehicle speed sensor on a 1999 chevy tahoe? And what does it look like and where is it located?

Should be on driver side of tranny, two wire connector. The wiring colors are in the diagram.
