1998 Chevy Tahoe transmission jitters going up hills

we have a 98 tahoe. it runs good, but when you start to go up a good size hill it start to jitter and the engine lite comes on. somebody said it might be a shutter in the trans. the engine lite goes off when you shut off and start back up. is this something i would have to have look at or can i do something to check out myself? or would changing fliud help.

It sounds more like an engine misfire. Have it scanned for trouble codes and post the codes for me.
