1997 Chevy Tahoe No reverse?

I have a 1997 Chevy 2 dr tahoe, that does not go in reverse. Before it went out I heard a loud crack. Then it would not go in reverse! How can I fix this problem? Do I need a new tranny? Should I just fix the reverse gear? Please advise.

It sounds like you need to have the tranny rebuilt. The good news is that these trannys are reletively cheap to rebuild, and they hold up well to rebuilds. Be sure to have an ASE certified mechanic look at it first. And if necessary, rebuild it.
