My truck has a knock when I first start it but only when the ambient temp is below about 40 degrees. All summer long, I have no knock.

Hi there,

what engine oil are you using? Have you checked the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge when cold?

I have not put a mechanical gauge on it, but it's a good idea, and I will do it. I have been using Quakerstate. What are your thoughts on synthetics like Mobile 1? I also heard of 4 others with these same symptoms, and they were told it's a normal amount of piston slap. Any thoughts?

Hi there,

The syn oil may start an oil burning issue, the pressure test is the key just now, if that is ok, I would be thinking the piston slap may be the cause.
