Hello. My 1995 Chevy Tahoe keeps cutting out on me while I am driving. By cutting out I mean losing power it seems like. Sometimes when I am pulling out of my drive way or what ever it may be it doesn't seem it wants to go. My husband put new spark plugs, wires, cap, and a roter on it hoping it would fix the problem. It didn't it seems like it is getting worse. When I go to start it, its starts just fine no problems, when is sitting there idoling, it will seem like it wants to die a few times. Could you give us some ideas on what this problem could be?

Hello, can you check fuel pressure? Are there any codes?

https://images.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/170934_aldl_6.jpg

If the datalink connector looks like the picture, you can use a jumper between terminals A & B, then turn the key on, just till the dash lites come on, no further, The cel starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. There may not be any codes. This guide can help us https://www.2carpros.com/articles/engine-stalls and https://www.2carpros.com/articles/buick-cadillac-chevy-gmc-oldsmobile-pontiac-gm-1983-1995-obd1-code-definitions-and-retrieval-method Please run down these guides and report back.

Hi there mookmikey and TY for the donation this is what keeps the site going. Check the fuel pressure if its within specs if okay test the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump/oil pressure sending unit-

Won't hurt to check it-Or do this find the fuel pump test connector and power it this will constantly operate the fuel pump

BTW what was the fuel pressure reading?

The fuel system primes up for 2secs then the fuel pump relay deenergized while the engine is being crank over oil pressure above 4lbs will close the Fp/Oil pressure switch and then it powers the fuel pump

I've been thru this twice, both times it was the temp sensor and ran pig-rich. It's located between #6 and #8 cylinders.. look for burned or shorted wires, or replace the sensor. You may have to drain coolant before replacing.

I also have a 95 Tahoe with similar characteristics that it will only start after I have held the pedal down for a while. The plugs were black which indicated inadequate fire. Like others, I change the plugs, distributor cap, and roter before I read this response about the temp sensor. I changed the temperature sensor and it runs fine. (mine is located on the front of the intake manifold near the radiator hose mount)

Thanks again.

The engine on this vehicle runs great as long as the battery is in good condition. The alternator is brand new but, if the battery is going bad, like losing voltage or a battery cable comes lose or comes off I lose all power copletely and the engine stalls. Why is this? I was under the impression that once a vehicle's engine is running and or on, the engine's power runs on the vehicles alternator. But that's not the case with this particuar vehicle. Is this the way this SUV was engineered? Or do I have some kind of electrical problem

that is hardly the case anymore. that is true back in older days, but with all of the electronic components and computers on board, running with only the alternator could create large voltage spikes and burn out these components. engineers figured that out and quickly added safety features to prevent that from happening , so normally on 90s and up vehicles if the battery dies even with a brand new alternator, the engine will stall out.

I have a 95 tahoe that when driving down the road it starts to hesitate and make poping noises under the hood. It only does this while driving, it runs great at and idel and in neutral. What could it be, I have changed the fuel filter and airfilter, is it my map sensor?

NO the check engine light is not on, and I have even hooked up a OBD to the vehicle and it reads no codes. When it starts to hesitate and stall if you let up on the throttle and then mash it it will run better, or shift the trany down to a lower gear where it makes the RPM's go up it will stop the hesitation until it shifts up and then it starts all over again.

What type of fuel injection is on the engine - TBI or CPFI? Take the air cleaner cover off and look down in the throttle body. If you see one or two egg shaped things before the butterfly valve - these are the injectors and it is a TBI. What is the fuel pressure? Pull the plugs and look at them let me know what each one looks like - include the cylinder number of each plug...

After heavy rain my 1995 Chevy Tahoe - lights outside and inside get very dim then they and the stereo turns off. Yet, the engine is still running. I was going down hill but was fine no problems once the road was flat.

This happen in heavy rain twice. Truck stalled once before this happen I pushed on the gas pedal truck did not move I could hear the truck and the gas voom as I pushed, but truck did not move for about 45 secs. I pushed on the gas finally the truck took off. This morning going down the hill the truck completely died out. After 4mins. it stated again now is running fine like nothing happened.

The first test I would do is get a garden hose and spray water on different parts of the engine compartment (start with a little then go more) and wait until the problem happens, then check all the places that you sprayed the water.
