2002 suburban, c/k 2500 4x4, automatic, 8.1 liter, 70k mileage.

second owner, purchased at 49,900. Today is 7/23/07.

the truck will stall while operating. It has been an on-going issue for last 6 months. It has stalled at the stop light and points in between, including highway speeds. There is no pattern, accel or decel, full fuel tank or near empty, raining or sunny, warm or cold outside. Nor does it matter how long it has been operating, but we usually have the problem within the first 20 minutes.

it has been to two mechanic shops, who tell me there are "no codes" of interest that would cause engine to stop. And, they cannot get the machine to stall while they are driving it.

one shop (threw a part at it), it was a "tach module". $500 later, I drove 4 miles and it stalled again.

help!

as an aside. I found this on another forum. Can anyone confirm.

"Common problems on this vehicle are failures of the Fuel Pump, Fuel Pressure Regulator and Crankshaft Position Sensor. Failure of the Fuel Pump or Crankshaft Position Sensor can cause the vehicle to stall or not start."

Mechanic shop had a tech2 hooked up and in "record" mode and the car stalled. Strangely, no code was recorded by the tech2 when it stalled. Additionally, they had a fuel pressure monitor on at the same time. And, it did not record any drop in fuel pressure. So, the decision to install crankshaft sensor was made. Additionally, a crankshaft calibration was also done.

Will report back if it solved it after a week or two of driving.

I have replied to a similar post.

I just took my 03 suburban in yesterday for the same thing. It used to happen only on long trips, now it happens on extended city driving.

I got the same feedback you did. No codes, unable to replicate the problem.

This is a very dangerous situation, especially if it happens at night on a long bridge with no shoulder. All power is lost ( no brake lights, etc.).

Quite the conundrum. Not sure what to do. Hopefully someone will reply to this post with an answer.
