fixing what triped the abs light will fix it on its own. You can disconect the battery and reset it but it will be back on if the problem has not been fixed.

Exvellent advice by dlobi,

You would need a chassis scanner to get the code and correct the problem, the light should go out.

While most autoparts stores will scan Powertrain codes (P). ABS codes are generally "C" codes, which autoparts generally do not scan.

There was a TSB (technical service bulletin) out a while back on the GM trucks for abs problems that involved the wheel sensors. The wheel sensor could be removed, cleaned up as well as cleaning the area where the sensor was seated. Rust/junk could get in there and lift the sensor enough to get a bad reading. You could get lucky with this clean up/fix or you might need one or more of the wheel speed sensors and worse case scenerio would be the ABS computer has problems.
