When the engine is in park, engine revs fine and sounds strong. When put in drive, the vehicle is sluggish and hesitates. The map sensor and fuel filter have both been changed. Worked better after, but is now doing similar things. Any ideas?

Hi jbarnes68,

Are there any check engine lights on? When is the last time you did a tune-up?

It sounds to me like you may have a mis-fire. A cylinder balance test may be in order to isolate this issue.

Yes, after driving a short distance, the check engine light does come on. But how come when it's in park, it will rev up and sound strong, but then hesitate when I start going? Sometimes when I'm at a light, still in drive with my foot on the break, it's revving all by itself. I'm a plumber and know nothing about cars.

Get the check engine light scanned. The DTC will point you in the right direction.

The vehicle acts differently when in drive than in park because when the transmission is in drive the engine has a higher load put on it, thus making the mis-fire/hesitation present and/or more noticeable.

Thanks man, I'll find somewhere to have the light scanned. Hopefully that'll do the trick!
