We were backing up a trailer with the wheel cranked and then major fluid loss and no power steering or brakes.

Your powersteering and brake systems are independent from each other. They do not share fluids. My guess is that a suspension part snapped and broke your powersteering and brake lines simultainiously. Your steering box may have shattered also.. This is a first for me so let me knoe what you find...
