Whining Noise

I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado with 100k on it but a brand new engine and rebuilt Trans. I notice that there has always been a whining noise coming from the truck when it is running and have been told that it is the fuel pump and that some Chevy's just do that. Well, the noise seems to be getting louder and also now seems to change pitch, almost as if it is surging. I also notice a little rougher idle etc.I am wondering first, is this sound the fuel pump? Second, is it getting louder and surging because it is going bad?

Thanks,

Jeff

Typical fuel pump noise with some miles. If it gets to bother you replace it. When they whine, they are nearing the end of their life span although I have seen them whine for another 100K The choice is yours. Piece of mind is a good repair gauge. Good luck

Thanks. It seems to have been whining the entire time I have had the vehicle but it is louder now. So, I am guessing I will look to replace it in the near future to prevent it just quitting on me.

Thanks again,

Jeff
