2004 Silverado, driving down the road seemed to loose power, would not accelerate with gas pedal floored, kept slowing down and then stalled out. Restarted but stalled again when put in gear

So my brother went to install a kill switch to the radio to get it to turn off as it wouldn't turn off at all. When the kill switch was installed the battery was disconnected so we reconnected it and now it displays unknown driver and the gauges are dead; no power locks or windows. The obd2 port wont work for a scanner but keep in mind the security light is not on. The truck will start but it will shut off immediately. Anyone know what is going on? We put the wires to the stereo back to what it was before it displayed unknown driver but still the truck is not registering the key or something. Were at a loss

Hi,

I have to be honest. I have only ever seen that one time. I'm adding my thoughts simply because I know you were working around the battery and that is where the problem was I dealt with.

I found that the PCM wiring harness was chafing against the battery tray. Since you were working around that area, check the harness to the PCM. Move it around and inspect it and see if moving the harness changes anything.

Let me know what you find.

Joe

No problem. And don't laugh, but if the vehicle has a power driver's seat and you were moving it around to work on the vehicle, check for wiring harness issues there as well. I found a technical service bulletin related to a "unknown driver' problem when the harness got damaged there as well.

I was getting on the hiway and noticed a slight loss of power and acceleration unless I floored it then it was fine. When I stopped at the off ramp light it would not idle on its own. I can push the gas and it feels smooth over 2000 rpms. So ichanged the maf sensor, spark plugs, wires and even the catalytic converters. Still runs rough at low rpm and wont idle at all. But will start right back up. Can you help me. My check engine light is on and get codes P0300 and P0101. A garage checked it and said it was that cats. But it wasnt.

The first step would be cleaning the throttle body out. If you have carbon buildup in the throttle body, it will cause poor or no idle quality. If this doesn't help, try to determine which cylinders show misfires. Let me know what you find.

I checked the engine compression and one cylinder had no compression at all so I removed the valve cover and that cylinder has a broken valve spring. The throttle body was fine.

Was it the driver side rear cylinder? I have seen about 5 different silverados with broken valve springs in the same location. 4 of them just got valve springs, 1 of them had to get a cylinder head.

It was the second cylinder from the front on the drivers side. And the rear spring on that cylinder. If you had heard of that before then a clue might of saved me alot of time and money.

Clean the throttle plate on both sides and idle air control. That's the oblong hole with choke cleaner. Your fuel pressure should be 55psi minimum unless it's flex fuel which it should be 48 psi minimum.
