2001 Chevy Silverado hot transmission fluid

LS 4.8L light came on last month while going out of town driving on the freeway, I just pulled over for a few minutes and everything was find.I was not towing anything at all. When I come back I have it get a transmisson service done getting a machine to clean out all the fluid fulsh and cleaned which made the truck drive very smooth. This past weekend I go out of town and it happend to me twice that the light came on. What could be the problem that cause the transmission hot fluid to come on?Is this the start of other problems like transmission going out. Help me out thanks in advance.

Hi there,

I would be checking that the oil cooler is not getting blocked, you may get better results from an after market external cooler, they are easy to fit and work very well.

I am not very good on working with cars should I buy an aftermarket oil cooler and just have it installed at a shop or dealership?I just dont want them to try and say something else which would require major service or replacement?How much should I pay for an oil cooler and any brand that you would reccommend?

I would first ring a transmission specialist and be guided by them as to what size cooler they recommend for your car, big is not always best in this case, if you have any doubts about fitting a cooler get a mechanic to do the installation for you, I would be thinking about 1 1/2 Hrs labour tops, as for a brand, that I can't help you with as I am in Australia and I have no idea s to what is on the market there.
