My z-71 has been showing service 4 wheel drive. I recently replaced the transfer case and it is still showing it. I had it checked to see what code it is setting and it showed 305 PROP switch. What does this mean and how do I fix it? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The code u gave is missing a letter and a number at the beginning of it
recheck and resubmit the code

possible bad switch
also when u replace the transfer case did u use the old encoder motor and sensors
and if so the motor is a very high possibility

To be honest it was showing the service code prior to changing transfer cases and I dont know if anything other than the transfer case was swapped out. I paid a guy who owns the transmission shop here in town. And the 305 prop switch code I got was from another shop who put it on their computer at their shop. They said I would have to go to a gm dealer or 4x4 place to see what it is. And thats the exact code he wrote down for me.

What is very common is the encoder motor on the transfer case
try to get the system scanned for codes
u need a scanner to do so
OBDII code reader will not help here
scanner is needed to access the tranny and transfer case codes
I tried looking for 305 but nothing

Yep that is what I have been told and it has the encoder motor that came on the new transfer case instead of the old one. And like I said before it was setting the service 4wheel light with the old encoder in place also. I appreciate your help but, it has tried my nerves. I checked with o'
riley auto parts and they said the 305 code is a misfire on #5 cylinder. Thanks again for your help.

P0305 is a misfire on cylinder # 5
C0305 is an ABS sensor out and so on.

The reason I was asking for the whole code #
none of the two codes has any thing to do with the 4x4

if it is a used transfer case that they used
chance is the encoder motor is bad

very common problem
they are so common GM but out a TSB on it

good luck !
