1999 Chevy Silverado changeing out trannys

When you are switching out transmissions do you really have to mark the flex plate and the torque converter? I mean everything is already balanced. Is this really necesary?

No that is not needed as that is not how the engine is balanced. The engine is balanced from the front harmonic balancer. Nothing I find mentions doing this either so no not needed. Thanks.

Im just really talking about the tranny, if I wap one out with a whole new unit I can just put it in without lining anything up right?

That right nothing special about doing other then making sure that the torque converter is all the way in the trans.
