1997 Chevy Silverado V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I need to know why my engine surges when I drive at a set speed for 15 minutes or more. When I go to slow down or stop it surges and often dies.

It could be a few things. Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked fuel pump pressure or for vacuum leaks? Have you tried cleaning the idle air control motor?
