I would like to know if there is a test for the front axle actuator for my 89 chev 2500, 6 bolt. I have power to the connector when I shift it in and it goes out when disengaged. The 4x4 indicator light does not light up when engaged and it quit while plowing driveways. It was working properly at the beginning of the day. Is it an easy change to replace the actuator? Any help would be appreciated.

The possibilities for the light not working are. Bulb, check the a/c-heater fuse, faulty front axle switch, or the wiring in between. Start with the fuses of course. Then check the bulb. If all ok, I would go towards the actuator, they had quite a few problems with them, and the new ones have a heater circuit to keep them from freezing up
