1987 Chevy Silverado Reading ECM Codes

1987 Chevy Silverado V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a code reader that covers 1982-1995 vehicles but when I plug it in and turn the key on I can't find where it flashed the light to read codes any help would be great thanks.

The check engine light on the dash is supposed to flash.

Thank you for your reply, the check eng light doesn't come on when I tried to read the codes with the key on any suggestion? Again thank you for any and all help.

Forget about the code reader. You can use a jumper wire between the A&B terminals at the data link connector, then turn on the key, no crank, just turn the key till the dash lites come on. The mil should start flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes.
