Oil Pressure

Good evening all~

I have a 99 S-10 with the 2.2 L4 engine. It has 121000 miles on it. My question concerns the oil pressure gauge in the instrument cluster. I have a manual tranny and the oil pressure gauge fluctuates on every shift. Is this normal. Should the oil pressure remain at a relatively stable state and not fluctuate?

It depends if the fluctuation of the oil pressure needle is smooth or eratic. If eratic jumping quickly back and forth the oil pressure sending unit could be faulty or not installed correctly. If smooth you are okay unless it redlines the oil pressure reading. If it redlines you have engine problems.
