Brakes problem 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 43000 miles

The parking brake does not engage when stepped on The brake peddle mechanism is not engaged and will not stay engaged. I do not think it ever worked. Is there some type of adjustment on the release cable? Please help

There is an adjustment, however make sure that the cables are connected. It sounds like you have a foot actuator that has gone out here is diagrams to help you see how to replace it.
