I recently had to purchase a new lower inake manifold for my 2002 s10 4.3L Vortec engine that is this factory original engine. My old lower intake did not have a EGR Valve mount in the front, but the new one does. I have a "W" engine. Do I need to cover this area with a plate or is there something I am missing here? Every place I have have searched gives me the intake with the EGR valve in the front.

If you wish you can use a template on it bear in mind you won't make it thru the state's smog/emission testing this is a required emission control device not till you can obtain the old type lower plenum.

Just an update: I found out that the 2002 4.3l "W" Vortex engine in my crew cab s10 did not have an egr control valve and it will work. The egr valve is controlled in the truck computer. No one sells that intake new, but you can buy the one that has the egr mounting hole. In other words a plate has to be made (I used diamond plate Alum.) And a couple of holes have to be plugged to make this work. Just got my truck fixed and it is purring like a kitten. Word to the wise be careful and flush the Dexcool Fluid Annually.
